Ever wanted to learn Japanese (or some other language) but gave up on it because you couldn't find a good teacher (or some other method of learning)? I was the same way... until I found
Memrise, a web-based learning program. Now, I'm learning a little Japanese and practicing old words each day, during lunch. It only takes me a few minutes to finish a session, but when it's over, I feel like I accomplished a lot.

Memrise is so much fun for my overly neglected brain! I wish I had this program when I was in middle school. I would have used it as a study guide for my German class. I absolutely hated that class, but I bet i would have done a lot better at keeping up with the teacher if I had Memrise to back me up. Fuck German, though. I'm
learning Japanese now!
You start by doing some warm-up exercises for the chosen subject, most likely the Survival Words category. As you continue, the session progressively gets harder and eventually starts becoming less of a multiple choice quiz by requiring you to type the words with the right spelling. If you get anything wrong, it goes to a page that repeats the word or phrase and gives you your answer so you can compare them. Usually, I just make spelling mistakes and have to fix them. Typing the words can be tough, but it helps you to remember how those words are spelled.
I also love the end screen for each session. It tells me how many words I learned, or "planted", and has accuracy information. It gives me the option to continue with my sessions or go back to the level selection menu. Finally, it gives a nice list of recent comments by other students, or "planters".
So I ask you again, is there a language you wish to learn? Perhaps you would like to memorize the states of the United States of America? Browse the
courses available and memorize something!
